Really cool concert with LA Collaboration tonight. Duane Funderburk (piano) and Alex Russell (violin concertmaster) are from Los Angeles and travel throughout the world collaborating with other orchestra ensembles in educating and performing classical music. Tonight was their sophomore visit with us, and they never fail to impress.

February 28, 2010the S in SM stands for “suspended”
February 27, 2010
This tech guy ran out of mic stands, so he knotted this SM57 with its own XLR then suspended the cable from the cabinet. The mic element is snagged by the cabinet material, and it stayed suspended…even with rowdy youth musicians jumping around the stage. Brilliant!
(By the way…the S in SM is “studio”.)

I Have a Shelter graphic
February 26, 2010I dig concept commercials.
February 25, 2010Fantastic advertisement from Sussex Safer Roads. Amazing concept.
humbling but true
February 24, 2010
Makes me think of Ephesians 6 where Paul instructs the masters and the slaves.
When it’s all broken down, servants are supposed to make their leaders better at what they do, and the leaders are supposed to edify their followers. The problem comes when the leader absorbs all that people do for them and don’t complete the cycle of uplifting those under him/her. The same can be said of volunteers…if they aren’t recognized and honored for what they do, they won’t come back…and they certainly won’t follow.
countryman e2
February 23, 2010
Countryman has released the latest of their E series: the E2 earset.
Similar to its relative E6 earset, the E2 offers a uni-directional element but with a shorter boom, making it nearly invisible from stage distance and more naturally comfortable for the presenter. Because of its tight location, isolation remains a key strongpoint for this earset, and the unit is just about the same retail price as the E6!
The E2, however, is not compatible with the E6 cables, but they can still connect with Shure (TA4F) and Sennheiser (3.5mm) bodypacks.
sleep asylum
February 21, 2010Logan is crazy. When he’s tired he likes to rub his eyes and his face…rather aggressively, too. As a result his young skin gets chaffed, and he’s rubbed most of his newborn hair off. Even worse, if he gets his mittens off of his hands during the night, he scratches his face like (appropriately) Wolverine.
So, we’ve taken matters to a new level to prevent Logan from rubbing his face completely off…
Dad duty!
February 21, 2010the Logan log
February 19, 2010And, no, I’m not talking about his dirty diapers.
Logan, at 3 months and 2 weeks now weighs 17 pounds and is 24-1/2 inches long. He’s already outgrown a lot of his newborn clothes and doesn’t even fit into some 6-9 month clothing! Little chunker is eating 6-7 ounces of formula every 3 hours or so. He recognizes Mom and Dad, loves watching TV, kicking and sleeping through the night (on occasion).
Altona’s VGA-HDMI converter
February 19, 2010
Altona Technologies is introducing the AT-HDVieW, a VGA-HDMI scaler/converter that is USB-powered and supports resolutions up to 1920×1200. It also fashions a 3.5mm plug to embed audio through HDMI. The downside, though, is the image is up-converted (not true HD), and the refresh rate is only 60Hz. Overall, pretty slick considering you don’t need multiple cables and a huge AC adapter.
